A Friday Evening Out With Pals From College At A Local Pub Leads To Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

When Lois was in high school, she had gained a reputation as an individual who studied a lot and who rarely, if ever, "got down" and drank with her pals. She seemed determined to do well academically so that she would be able to secure a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her a degree of security from a financial point of view.

After Lois completed high school, she applied to and was accepted into a nationally ranked program in linguistics. Her logic behind this decision was that this subject would be good preparation for law school and would not be identical to the bulk of law school applicants who pick political science as their undergraduate major.

Lois was the type of individual who worked hard to accomplish her goal and then would take a few days off when she could. As it turns out, however, most of the things she did between terms or during her summer vacations did not have much of anything to do with drinking. Clearly, Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her finals for her second year in law school were over and being jubilant with the fact that she had done a super job on her exams, nevertheless, she wanted to let her hair down and do something enjoyable.

So Lois and a number of her friends from school went to a local saloon where they had a few shots. As the evening progressed, Lois and her buddies continued to drink. As a matter of fact she was having such a wonderful time that she didn't want the night to end.

After drinking around two hours when Lois began to slur her words, speak in a confused manner, and then pass out, in spite of this, her friends without delay realized that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for medical assistance because they thought that Lois was manifesting alcohol poisoning symptoms.

Lois was attentive to the fact that she came close to losing her life from an alcohol overdose and, as a result, was pleased to be alive. At the same time, nevertheless, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost died the night before. Her Mom and Dad were aware how intensely she worked at school and how little she permitted herself to socialize with her buddies. Nevertheless, they also knew that Lois needed to keep away from careless and excessive drinking.

Consequently, they recommended that down the road, whenever a drinking situation develops, that she always drink in moderation and responsibly. Lois agreed and gave her word to her friends and to her parents that she would never ever drink in an irresponsible and abusive manner. In Lois's own words, "I never pondered the fact that I might become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local newspaper. I now understand that irresponsible and hazardous drinking is not for me. I swear that this will never happen again."

Fortunately, Lois was not only "school smart" but she also displayed a lot of. Stated more precisely, she rapidly knew that she had made a mistake and made up her mind that she would not make the same error again. In truth, she now understood that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this type of abusive and irresponsible drinking can result in a fatality.
