A Young Female Overcomes Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Treatment For Her Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking, And Boosts Her Self Esteem
Emily was a twenty-eight-year-old insurance agent who was fed up with feeling depressed everyday of her life and tired of her careless and excessive drinking behavior. Simply put, she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis, she was mad at herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, she was tired of going through shattered relationship after shattered relationship due to her irresponsible drinking, she was sick of feeling weary every morning, and she missed her old drive for doing the things she enjoyed.
In addition to the identifiable alcohol-related health difficulties she now experienced, perhaps the unhealthiest part of her drinking regimen was the undependable and dishonest individual she had become. In her heart of hearts she realized that she had been lying about her drinking behavior to her relatives, friends, and family and she also knew she had been less than honest with herself about the "healthy" effects of drinking. What is more, she justified gulping three or four drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing a few drinks the very first thing in the morning so that she could manage the "tension" at work. In brief, Emily got to a time in her life when she understood that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to commence the gradual and slow road that leads to health.
One of the ways that Emily operationalized her "plan" was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved by top management, she moved 300 miles away to a new state. If nothing else, this beyond question made making new friends and buddies and disconnecting herself from her old friends much easier. Then she contacted a doctor in her new location city and scheduled an appointment for a thorough exam.
After meeting with the healthcare professional and taking numerous lab tests, it became painfully clear that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and therefore, was in need of alcohol detoxification and alcohol treatment. At this stressful time, her healthcare professional made it a point to go over the diverse alcoholic symptoms and the typical symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her physician also told Emily that it was determined that she was clinically depressed and in need of therapy for her medical situation.
Due to her willingness to follow through with the rehabilitation program, after seven weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to start counseling on an outpatient basis. At this time in her life, she began working at her new job and over the weeks began revitalizing her body by exercising, drinking filtered water, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free way of life, and taking vitamins and minerals.
After approximately twelve weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never experienced a relapse, Emily quit going to alcohol counseling and instead started going five times per week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free style of life, they gave her the support she sought after, and they served as an unceasing reminder of the negative results that are associated with excessive and hazardous drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now joyful and loaded with promise that she could have never yearned for or attained while she was involved in excessive and careless drinking behavior.
