A Young Female Quits Drinking, Suffers From Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Decides To Get Alcohol Treatment

Kayla is a twenty-eight-year-old paralegal who has been ingesting alcohol in an excessive manner since her boyfriend and she broke up. In fact, for the past eleven months she has been drinking very nearly a bottle of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking a number shots during the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so excessively and hazardously that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.

After feeling unhappy because she was beginning to let her health go downhill, Kayla finally told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to quit feeling sorry for herself, that it's time to stop the hazardous and irresponsible drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 10:30 AM, she determined that she would quit drinking completely and suddenly without planning or preparation.

When she called her best friend and informed her that she had quit drinking and that after a couple of hours she suddenly started to experience flu-like symptoms, Stacy, her best pal, told Kayla to call her doctor and go over what she was experiencing.

Her medical practitioner told her that she may be going through alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have someone drive her to the emergency room as soon as humanly possible. Obviously her doctor had called ahead and told the emergency room medical team to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by a paramedic and a nurse who promptly told her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.

An emergency room healthcare professional administered some medications to lessen her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some drugs to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her body. After a few hours, Kayla was removed from the ER and wheeled to the recovery room.

After she was in recovery for about an hour, Doctor Devor, a drug and alcohol abuse specialist, came to talk to her. He took his time and explained that Kayla had suffered through alcohol withdrawals when she stopped drinking because she had become dependent on alcohol.

He then elucidated the fact that with continuous and heavy drinking, the drinker's brain gradually adjusts to the alcohol so that it can perform in a "normal" way. When the drinker then all of a sudden stops ingesting alcohol, however, the brain responds by eliciting alcohol withdrawals. In addition, her physician also explained the different alcoholism symptoms that an alcoholic almost always goes through as the disease progresses.

Fortunately for Kayla, it was established that she was in the first stage of alcoholism and, as a result, she was given a favorable prognosis for a complete recovery if she will get the alcohol therapy she requires.

Kayla told the doctor that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to restore her health. She also articulated that she has a very comprehensive hospitalization insurance plan that will more likely than not pay for most, if not all, of the costs required for rehabilitation. It was clear to see that Kayla was quite happy with her encouraging prognosis and felt free from worry knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol treatment she requires so that she can begin the road to recovery.
