A Young Man Needs Therapy For His Severe Depression, Relationship Problems, And For His Substance Abuse

Approximately three months ago I had dinner with a thirty-five-year-old male named Benjamin who experiences intense depression, has relationship issues, and who is alcohol and drug dependent. As stated by Benjamin, it is his alcoholism and drug addiction and his severe depression that has had the most to do with his unceasing relationship problems.

As affirmed by Benjamin, he is so overwhelmed by his relationship difficulties and by both of his medical conditions that he basically has no aspiration to do much of anything. What is particularly unfortunate about this is that earlier in his life, Benjamin completed four semesters of graduate school in entrepreneurship.

Benjamin's condition makes me wonder if he is an example of an individual who can look in the mirror and see his drinking problems and drug addiction and do something positive about these issues. Or, to the contrary, if he is an individual who has to hit the very bottom before he gets drug and alcohol treatment that results in long-term sobriety.

It may be asked how rehabilitation would help his drug and alcohol dependency. Fourth, treatment for his relationship problems and his depression might help him manage these psychological problems more effectively and perhaps create less of a need for him to engage in additive behavior. And finally,in rehabilitation he could also learn more about the diverse symptoms of alcoholism that he has displayed.

Due to the fact that Benjamin doesn't have the willpower to carry out much of anything in his life, it is evident that he desperately needs a little hope for a better existence. And the sad thing is that hope is virtually everywhere around Benjamin if he could only get to the place in life to get the therapy he needs for his severe depression and addiction and remain in his treatment protocol.

Benjamin is clearly too young to be beaten in life. He doesn't comprehend this at the moment but if he can learn how to refrin from alcohol and drugs via drug and alcohol rehabilitation and get the treatment he requires for his severe depression, he can redirect his life and begin living with self-respect, passion, and direction.

Enhanced relationships, constructive change, self respect, and a wonderful life are certainly a reality for Benjamin. But only if he can get inspired to get the professional rehab he requires, follow through with his treatment regimen, live his life in a healthy and addiction-free way, and learn how to foster a more positive attitude about his life.
