Iscar Offers A Revolutionary Family Of Slitting Cutters Applying Tang-Grip Technology And The Strength Of Sumo Tec Grades
Iscar now offers a family of high-performance slitting tools that incorporate the convenience and security of Tang-Grip clamping with the added durability of the brand new Sumo Tec insert grades.
The notion, already proven effective in Tang-Grip parting tools, has now been spread to slitting cutters. In the patented Tang-Grip clamping system, inserts are press-fit into their pockets accompanying a special hand tool, and are gripped firmly in place without the need for clamps, upper jaws or set screws that can weaken the insert and obstruct chip flow. The pocket design utilizes cutting forces to retain the insert seated solidly in position, eliminating any chance of insert pull-out. The Tang-Grip clamping system also fosters increased accurate slitting cuts plus longer pocket and insert life.
Iscar's Sumo Tec insert grades showcase a special post-coating treatment which extensively increases tool life and constancy.
Introduced in late '07, the completely new Sumo Tec treatment smooths the insert's coated surface to eradicate microscopic stress raisers, diminish heat and friction and improve chip flow. The result is enhanced toughness and opposition to chipping and built-up edge, all leading to enhanced tool life. The golden-colored flank on Sumo Tec inserts aides wear detection. Size for size, Tangslit cutters offer more teeth than Iscar's SGSF cutters, allowing higher feed rates.
Their increased rigidity leads to straighter, more accurate cuts and lowered vibration even in large-diameter cutters. The revolutionary Tangslit TGSF cutters come in 100 to 160 mm diameters, 3 and 4 mm widths and can accept the exact same selection of inserts as Tang-Grip parting tools. Additional sizes will be added.
Existing Sumo Tec grades for Tangslit cutters include:
IC808, with a tough submicron substrate beneath a Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating, delivering exceptional resistance to impact loads and built-up edge. This grade is recommended for slitting heat resistant alloys, austenitic stainless steel, hard alloys & carbon steel.
IC830, presenting greater toughness for heavier parting and grooving involving interrupted cuts. It is fitting for all stainless steel and high temperature alloys.
IC908, a hard, fine-grain substrate with outstanding chipping resistance, combined with a brand new Sumo Tec TiAlN PVD coating. It is perfect for nodular or grey cast iron.
IC928 and 928A, PVD TiAlN-coated tough grades suitable for stainless steel, high temperature alloys and other alloy steels. These grades are also suggested for interrupted cuts and heavy operations.
All Tangslit and Tang-Grip inserts are presented in J- or C-type chipformer geometries from Iscar.
